January is Bedroom Month

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I am not sure who declared ’January is bedroom month’, but I thought it would be nice to share some inspirational thoughts and photos of bedrooms.

I love this boy’s bedroom design.  The headboard is upholstered in New Batik from China Seas.  What a beautiful fabric!

The pinky beige wall coordinates beautifully with this comforter.  I like the strange headboard (shaped like a fat Christmas tree.)

Adding Color and Interest With Wallcoverings

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Didn’t I say that I would never use wallpaper again?  I did the last time I was scraping for hours little tiny bits of wallpaper off  my walls.  Well… you heard the phrase- never say never, especially in design.  Not only has the name changed, now called wallcoverings, the patterns, textures and colors are dramatic and exciting.  I have recently seen rooms, and even just one accent wall,  being done with wallcoverings. So I started researching online and I was surprised to see all of the beautiful patterns and colors.  Just gorgeous.

Now with fresh new beautiful patterns, rooms can actually be ‘updated’ with wallcoverings. They sure have come a long way.  Bathrooms, bedrooms, entry ways, bedroom, living and dining rooms. One of my favorite wallcovering sites: http://www.yorkwall.com/index.html
has everything from traditional, dramatic, designer designs, contemporary, floral, textured and many others.  Maybe I will give it a try again.  Has anyone used wallcovering lately?  Let  me know!

Pantone’s color for the year 2010 is…

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Turquoise, says the Pantone Color Institution .  I don’t know about you, but the first thing that comes to mind is the Tiffany box. Classy, elegant and timeless. I also think of the Caribean ocean.

I have been using the color turquoise as a splash of color with accessories in a room, but I am not sure how I would feel painting the whole room with that bright color.  What I like is it has both warm and cool undertones, so it pairs well with any other color, such as browns, creams and many neutral colors.   Look how nice it looks with pink!

Also, turquoise can look both elegant or casual depending on your furnishings.  Watch how the color turquoise will be seen in home furnishings as well as in the fashion industry.

Arranging furniture after Christmas

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

After putting your Christmas tree and decorations away this year, instead of automatically putting your furniture in the same spot, try to rearrange and shake up your furniture layout.

cozy living room

Start with your largest piece, usually the sofa, in a new position in the room.  You can trying placing on an angle or in front of a window wall.   Then place  your chairs on the sides of sofa to make a ‘U’ shape for a good conversation area.  Pull in tables and lamps in the arrangement.  If possible, use an area rug to anchor the seating area and to pull in all together.  A new room for a new year!
