Well I am getting excited and starting to pack my bags for my IRNconference next week.  This year it is being held in Boston at The Royal Sonesta Boston Hotel .  Yay for me!  No airline hassles this year.

Each year we meet for an educational three to four days in different parts of the country.  Las Vegas, High Point NC, and Hilton Head are a few examples of the great places we have gotten to visit.  A committee each year organizes everything for us, from all the interesting seminars, to great food and entertainment, guest speakers and local field trips.

This year, some of the scheduled seminars are “Lighting Design for Interior Spaces” with Ross De Alessi, Lighting Designer and  ”Dream Draper: The Premier Window Treatment” by Carl F. Milzner CEO, Dream Draper that will highlight window treatment design and ideas moving forward.  One of the seminars that I am really looking forward too is one of my personal friends,  Frances Mooney, a BM Color design specialist.  She will be discussing “Color Pulse” Forecast for 2012 Color Trends, a Color & Design Forecast exclusive for Architectural and Design Professionals.  I am always interested in company predictions on which way they think the colors are headed.

Other classes I am very interested in are flower arranging, Durelee Fabrics, “All about Flooring”, “Social Networking” and much more.  But the best part is that we are going to the Boston Design Center for almost a whole day.  There will be tours as well as plenty of time for us to walk around on our own.  I have wanted to go to the design center for so long- I am really excited to meet people that work there,  seeing what they are working on and what’s new in design. I am especially excited about meeting the people who work for Robert Allen, Sherwin Williams, Kravet and Ben Moore.  I have talked to so many of them on the phone, it will be great to finally meet them in person.

For those readers who are not familiar with the IRN, it is an organization of interior redecorators who have been trained by Lauri Ward in New York City.  Lauri and the interior designers who belong to this organization are some of  who revolutionized the interior design business with a simple idea – using what people already have in their home as the foundation to create a fresher, updated, more elegant look, without spending a lot of money. We are a professional organization of interior decorators who have successfully completed a course of study and have been certified in the Use-What-You-Have principles and methods and we are located throughout the United States and Canada.  We also must earn CEP’s to renew our certification yearly.

Although I have been a designer for many years, Lauri’s ‘use-what-you-have’ philosophy really interestested me in actually being able to decorate client’s homes without having to spend a lot of money. I took the IRN program and was certified in 2004, which was before the reduce, recycle, reuse green living even came about.

All in all, I am looking forward to going to the conference in a few days! I love spending time with people that love decorating as much as I do!  I learn so much from everyone.
