I know the popular trend lately has been to use an ottoman in front of the sofa instead of a coffee table.

They can be beautiful and I guess it is nice to have somewhere to put your feet up and relax. But… I have never really trusted those little trays you use on the ottoman that are supposed to hold your beverages to not tip over and spill. Do you?

The main reason I love using a coffee table instead of an ottoman is because it is another surface to accessorize!

It is such a great place to show off your personality. Either with the design of the table:

Look how cute:

Aren’t they great?
What great photos! I pinned two of them… the repurposed doors table, and the bundled, banded wood strips table.
Thanks for sharing!
Aren’t those suitcases so cute? Love to see your house sometime- you have the coolest things!
Oooh I think some of the coffee “tables” are so cute! I got a kick out of the suitcase ones
In our small living room, I have an end table we cut down to use as a coffee table. Its sized “just right”! But in the family room, where we have our one-and-only TV, we have an old 1980′s style table called a “party ottoman” which has a table in the center with cushions on either side to put up your feet! They were really popular back then and we made ours ourselves. The nice thing is we’ve changed the fabric on the feet cushions several times to coordinate with the room’s look. It’s kind of a quirky look but really practical
Me too Nancy! I love peices that have history!
As someone with 2 kids and 2 cats I can testify that the ottoman and tray are not for the long haul!
I love the coffee table that looks to be made from the remnants of an old door and cabinets. It adds such character to the space!
