A reader wrote me a question the other day and asked, “What if you were trying to tone down pink undertones in a pink-beige tiled bathroom? Would you still want to use a pink undertone beige if you didn’t want a “pink” bath?”
I thought it was an excellent question and I actually am hearing the same question more and more often. The average homeowner just does not have the expendable money right now for big purchases, like flooring, so we will have to keep our pinky beige tiles/carpet/furniture for now. So what other color works great with pinky beige?
Beautiful neutral blue.
Blue and pink/red beige work beautifully together:
So my advice to you would be if you are working with pink/red beige undertones in flooring/walls/furniture/bedding and want to bring another color in the room besides beige, I suggest trying a shade of blue.
Look at how nice the blue on the TV screen looks in an all beige room:

We know the combination of brown and blue work so well:
And we know brown has a lot of red undertones. So it makes sense that a pinky/red beige with red undertones will also work beautifully with the blues:
What shade of blue do I suggest to work with pink/red undertone beige? I took a few photos below of different blues against Shaker Beige (red undertones):
You can see that many of the different shades of blue are working well with the pinky beige. One of my favorite blues I have used with shaker beige is santorini blue:
So pretty!
You can introduce blue accents with pillows and wall art. These less expensive pieces can easily change with decorating trends. Or you can change your whole room’s look by painting your walls a pretty blue.

I’m redoing a room and i would like to do Blue, Beige,and Browns. My problem is finding the right blue and beige. It’s going to be my leaving room. It’s a med size room. I dont want a dark blue or a bright blue. I have bought sample colors and having a hard time. Not sure if i should paint one wall blue and the rest beige. Can u please give me so idea’s and color shades of blue and biege. HELP
Yes, the blues look beautiful here, but what if, like me, you just don’t like blues and you want to tone down the pinkish-reddish tones?!
Did you mean the lightest color on the color strip? That is glass slipper 1632. And black and white would work wonderfully!
Also, can you name the light-blue-grey in your swatch palette? Thank you!

Thanks for this post. I’ve been looking for some advice on this. I recently painted my living room grey and found a vintage cream sofa at a local thrift store that I bought to brighten the room up. I tested the cushion against the wall colour (stonington grey) first and thought it was good. But when I brought the couch home I realized it has a slight pink undertone. I thought putting blue with it might work, and I can’t wait to get some cushions on it because all I can see now is the awful pink. (which probably no one else will even notice!)

Great suggestions on using blues! I also like the pic with the orange accents.
Such great advice, Kelly! Just stay away from pairing green with pinky-beige – it totally makes it more pink!
