New Bed = New Bedroom Design!

newbed

It only makes sense that when a new bed is purchased, you should continue to redecorate the whole bedroom! Don’t you agree? :)

I knew you would back me up on this! My husband actually picked out our new bed. It reminds him of a bed we owned years ago that he has always missed. It’s style is British Colonial:

I like that the bed sits up higher and that I do not have to deal with a bed skirt:

I just purchased the white bedding that I will keep. I put a little design board together for myself starting with the fabric I ordered for the window panels:

I am also going to use this fabric above to make a boudoir pillow for the bed. It is such an easy way to decorate the bed:

Here is my plan:

Since the furniture is heavy looking, I tried to lighten it with crystals, mirrors and other light accessories. I could pick so many different rugs but I think this one works well with the light and dark together. I love my new fabric! I will post pictures when room is complete. Soon I hope!

Any other suggestions my friends? I would love to hear your ideas.

Thank you!!

Styled Nightstands

Designer Emily Henderson recently hosted a contest along with Serena and Lily, to find the best styled nightstand. Which got me thinking…

Do you decorate your nightstands? I don’t think that everyone thinks of it. I love to decorate mine. Like any other flat surface, it is a great place to put together something creative that makes you smile every time you see it. This is one in my guest room:

There are no rules to make a pretty styled nightstand. Begin with the basic items: a lamp and a clock. The rest of the items are just accessories:

Use items with different heights, sizes and shapes. This adds variation and dimension. Something big and short, something tall and thin … use a variety of sizes and heights to amp up the personality. Lamps, skinny vases, flat books, tall frames and flowers all look great:

Bowls are great to use for taking off your jewelry at bedtime:

I think a styled vignette on the nightstand makes the bedroom look more polished and pulled together.

Do you agree? Do you decorate your nightstands? It’s not as easy as it looks, is it? I hope these photos have given you some ideas and inspiration. I just love looking through these beautiful pictures, don’t you?

Thanks!

A New Bedroom Update

Wednesday, February 27th, 2013

source

I wanted to share an online bedroom project I recently finished that I think came out so pretty. My client Beth, had wanted to update her bedroom into a new, bright and fresh space.

She decided to use her existing bedroom furniture which is a darker stained wood. She had also recently painted the room with Ben Moore Palladian Blue HC-144:

I found this fabric for her because she wanted something a little more custom in the room without spending too much. This fabric will be made in window panels and a long boudoir pillow for the bed:

I suggested white bedding which she loved:

And here is the final design board:

Beth is really happy with our choices, which makes me really happy! Thanks for letting me share Beth. What do you think of of her design plan?

Thank you for voting for my entry in the Tobi Farley design contest!! Just a few more days! Please try to vote each day! Thank you so very much!!!!

White Bedding

Saturday, February 9th, 2013

Great color combination and I love the placement of the sunburst mirror!

As I began my search for bed linens to dress up our new bed, I already knew that I wanted white bedding as my base. I knew that because I noticed that my favorite  bedroom photos seem to all have one thing in common:

White bed linens. The white looks great no matter what other colors are in the room or what style:

I bought a quilt and two shams from West Elm to go with my king bed:

So soft and pretty! There are tons of possibilities with colors, patterns and textures you can work with when you have a white base on the bed. Don’t you agree? Plus, it will always be easy to change the room colors in the future and the white bedding will still work well.
