Green and Blue Combination

A couple years ago( 2010!), I wrote a post about loving the color combination of green and blue here:

I still love the grouping of the two colors as a combination. Especially green and navy blue:

I am working on an online kitchen design project now with a gentleman that needs help with color choices for this type of similar kitchen:

oak cabinets

I still think that green is the absolute best color to work with light wood cabinets:

And to make the kitchen more interesting, I suggested a color palette of green and navy blue:

I think it will look fabulous! I am waiting to see what he decides. I will keep you updated!

What do you think of the green and navy blue color combination?

Great Wall Color For Light/Medium Kitchen Cabinets

Thursday, July 10th, 2014

Kelly Bernier 5 14 kitchen

Five years ago, when we first moved into our new NH home, all the walls throughout the home were plasterboard white. Loving color, I wanted to paint the walls right away to make it my home. I was in love, like everyone else at that time, with the warm Autumn color palette:

Around the same time, Benjamin Moore introduced their new Affinity colors and I fell in love with the color firenze AF-225:

firenze

A very warm and neutral terracotta color. Our kitchen cabinets are maple which is a close color neighbor to oak. Look how nice this color works with our wood cabinets:

The terracotta color enhances the wood tones. I have always loved the combination.

Now we are starting a kitchen redesign. New countertops, new backsplash and now I want new paint! I really looked and thought back and forth if I should change it because it worked so well. But, everything else in the kitchen is going to be new, so why not a new wall paint color?

I never hung window treatments above because I could not find fabric that I loved enough. Someday, (right, Mike?) I would love to put a banquette against the back wall and flat roman shade window treatments in a coordinating fabric.

So if you have been looking for a paint color that will work well with your light to medium wood kitchen cabinets, give firenze or another terracotta color a try!

Target’s New Paint and Wallpaper Line

Has anyone tried any of the paint colors from Target’s new Devine paint color collection?

A reader wrote and asked me if I had worked with the paint yet. I have read a little about the new paint and wallpaper, but I have never actually used. There are 24 paint colors to choose from and to complement the palette, Devine Color Prints and Patterns wallpaper designs are coordinated to the paint colors. Each self-adhesive wall covering can be easily applied, removed or even re-positioned.

Devine Color was invented by artist Gretchen Schauffler and developed by Miller Paint of Portland, Oregon.

I did find out that not all of the colors can be found in each Target store, but all can be ordered online:

The prices run from $4.99 for a 8 oz. sample, 1 quart is $22.99, 2.5 liters is $29.99 and one gallon will cost you $59.99. The reviews are mixed, one customer stated how wonderful the wallpaper was and another wrote that the wallpaper was very difficult to work with.

I think some of the colors are very pretty and might try it on a smaller project.

I am anxious to hear if anyone has tried the new paint or wallpaper. Do you think it will be handy at times when running into Target for errands, you can also pick up a gallon of paint? What do you think?

5 Tips I Taught Our New Local Paint Store Today

Wednesday, June 18th, 2014

ben

I stopped by a local hardware store today that just started carrying Benjamin Moore paint products. I don’t want to name the store or who was working, not important. He was very new to paint and Ben Moore so I told him I would give him a few helpful hints when helping customers, which he told me was sometimes a nightmare!

* Suggest Benjamin Moore White Dove when asked for the best/favorite trim and cabinet color. A good white without obvious undertones.

* Suggest to the customer that they bring in a piece of fabric or inspiration to help choose a color, NOT a cell phone picture.

* When they have no idea where to even start, ask if they are looking for a warm and cozy room (beige, red, orange or yellow) or a bright and cool room (white, blue, green or violet).

* A great place to start looking for colors is in Historical Colors. 95% of all paint colors chosen are from the Historical Collection. Tried and true! Or show them the Candace Olsen Fan Deck and tell the customer how popular she and the colors are.

* Push those paint samples! I strongly suggest buying just a small sample and testing on poster board before you paint on walls. The color will change from that small paper sample to up on the wall. Even I always do:

He was very appreciative! My good deed for the day. Do you have any other quick paint tips I could share with him to help a beginner with his new job? Thank you!
