A Beautiful Greige- BM Grant Beige

Thursday, January 8th, 2015

I never wrote about a specific beige before. But lately, I am drawn to this neutral medium beige with a touch of gray in it. Benjamin Moore’s Grant Beige HC-83 is nothing fancy, just a beautiful soft color for the walls:

Isn’t it beautiful? I just recently took the time to really look at it and see how subtle this beige is but with strength to not get lost in the room:

Grant Beige has green undertones which makes it easier to work with than the beiges with red or yellow undertones. Green undertones do not scream out, “ Look at me!” and will often work well with red or yellow undertones.

I love how well it works with whites, black, gray, red, green and blues. I am starting to design a room now with a color palette of grant beige, white and navy. Gorgeous!

And I love how it looks with stained trim:

What a beautiful room, isn’t it?

So, are these photos demonstrating why I am loving the Grant Beige color? Plus, this greige works with contemporary and transitional settings as well as traditional. What more can you ask of a beige?

Online Coral & Aqua Bedroom Design

Wednesday, October 8th, 2014

I recently completed an online design plan for Carol on a new bedroom design that she said I could share. She is recently divorced and was looking for a beautiful and feminine bedroom to come home to.

I found a coral fabric that we used as a starting point for the room:

So pretty! Carol wanted white bedding, so she is going to use this fabric as a duvet folded at the bottom of bed and possibly even window panels.

She already has a bedroom set that we incorporated in our plan:

I gave her a couple different wall colors to think about and she decided to go with Benjamin Moore Simply White:

Fabric for pillows on bed and on new white chair:

A beautiful new mirror for over the dresser:

And here is Carol’s new bedroom design board:

We love it! Coral and aqua is such a pretty color combination. I also suggested finding an old dresser that she could paint in a soft aqua color. Carol promised to send after photos which I will be sure to share with you!

Guest Bedroom Update

Saturday, June 14th, 2014

I recently finished an online design plan for a family guest bedroom:

Mary Ellen wanted a new and fresh guest room for her parents who stays with her a few months out of the year. And she specified that she wanted the room to look pretty! Everything in the room was going except for the carpet and ceiling fan. It is hard to see in the photos, but the carpet has a yellow undertone.

I had suggested twin beds, which I think is a great option for guest rooms. She decided to go with a queen size bed. Here is her final headboard selection:

I wanted to brighten the room as much as possible, so I suggested white bedding:

With a beautiful, colorful duvet folded at the bottom of the bed:

I also suggested placing the headboard centered against the window to balance out the room:

She is going to look for a small dresser for the wall on the right above. One trick I use to save space in bedrooms, is to hang the tv up on a wall bracket and out of the way:

There were several different ways we could have gone to select a paint color using the duvet cover:

She decided she loved Benjamin Moore Lavender Wash CSP-515:

Especially with the window treatments she chose:

I wish I could fast forward and show you the after pictures! Mary Beth said she would share photos after she finished the room.

I think it looks marvelous! And so does Mary Beth which is what really matters. What do you think of the plan put together for the guest bedroom?

Agree Or Disagree?

bedroom1

One of the best pieces of decorating advice I have always tried to follow, is that when you think your decorated room is finished, take a step back and snap a picture:

When you look at the photo, does the room still look finished to you? Does anything need to be added? Or taken away? Let’s take this bedroom picture above for an example. I think it is very pretty, but did you notice an idea that might make this bedroom look even better?

I think a long scarf or piece of fabric at the bottom of the bed would look perfect here to balance the top and bottom of the bed.. I experimented with a piece from another bed:

I think it looks much better! (It does need to be a bit wider though than the example piece.) I have always loved using that bottom piece on the bed. Does anyone know what it is called??  I think using the same fabric as the pillow and window treatments will be the perfect finishing touch for the room:
