Why does it always seem so difficult to make decorating decisions when it is your own home?! I have been pondering so many different decorating directions for one particular room. I think that I am thinking too much about it! I need to make a decision–maybe you could help!”
Remember my office I have been decorating and posted about here?
Well, I really do like the way the room is coming out, but I will be honest when I say that I’m not entirely crazy about the leather chair over in the corner.I really do like the look of a leather chair and it coordinates so well with my super orange sofa chair and my new rug (leather is a great neutral). Even though I really like the chair, it just doesn’t feel warm and comfy. I like my chair that I use for reading and relaxing it to be extra cozy and soft. Don’t you? I love fabric! Just like this one below:
I had this chair custom made about 8 years ago and I still love it (I had to close curtains because of the glare for pictures. Not because I wanted to show how they match- haha). Even though the fabric is not my new favorite, it is so comfortable and has the exact “feel” that I am craving in the corner! I want to bring that comfortable chair into my office and switch out the leather chair to have all of my favorites together. As you can see below, the fabric from chair looks great with my super orange sofa and my pretty, new red throw from Pottery Barn.
But here comes the problem; take a look at the chair fabric with the carpet:
Not working for me. What do you think?
You really have to be careful matching a patterned print with another patterned print. Floral and stripe fabrics are pretty easy to put together, but you still have to know the basics. Remember that you have to keep the backgrounds either both white and white or cream and cream together. A white background with a cream background just does not work together well.
See how Jason and John are using many different patterns in the room below? The patterns are working together because the background in the fabric bedding and the wallpaper background are both white.
When the backgrounds are different colors, besides beige or white, that is where it gets a bit more difficult to tell if they are working together well. Here the carpet has a beige background and the chair fabric has a yellow background.
It is not working because comparing the two, you can see the rug background looks ‘dirty’ where the bright yellow chair fabric background looks ‘clean’. Can you see what I mean?
So the chair will NOT work in this room. Decorating dilemma solved! Thank you very much! Maybe someday Iwill have my chair reupholstered but that is sadly not in the budget right now.
But look how I did brighten up the leather chair with my new red throw and just changing out the pillow:
I love the way it brings in the picture too now. I do like it much better, it does look cozier in the corner now ( I know I need a taller table under the picture-so hard to find the perfect height and width!). Isn’t this a great picture below I found at Home Goods?
Love the colors in it!
