Looking at all of the beautiful inspirational Fall photos here, here and here, I felt motivated to decorate my own porch:

I used the same wreath from last year I made here. In one photo, I saw a pretty white pumpkin with a black monogram. She had used a decal sticker for her pumpkin, which I could not find in large alphabet letters anywhere! But I like my ‘B’ I found:

Can you tell up close which is the real pumpkins and which are faux? Shhhhhh..Picking out the cornstalk was the best. Look, it still has corn on it!:

I might add an up light behind the cornstalk. That would look really nice at night!

Have you started decorating for Autumn? I know it is a bit early, but I was supposed to leave for Chicago tomorrow to visit my sisters and I was just planning ahead. I was looking so forward to it. Unfortunately, my trip was cancelled today but that is another story.

Project Updates

Monday, August 11th, 2014

I have been extremely busy with online design plans the last couple of months.  One project I first shared with you here, is moving along very well. I am working with a gentleman wanting to update his kitchen:

When I work with clients online, I give them several choices for each decorating decision so they are also part of the process. For instance, the first item on the kitchen agenda was selecting a paint color. I gave Jeff a few choices that would all work well and he chose Ben Moore Agave AF-420:

We decided on a green and blue color scheme here. Next, I offered a couple different selections of rugs for him to choose from to bring color in the room:

We are now looking at art to fill the back wall. Here was one suggestion I gave him I thought would work well in both color and size for the room:

We are still looking for lighting, table and chairs and window treatments. It is a step by step process allowing you to pick a favorite from all of the perfect options I present you with. That is how we work together! I do not put a design plan together for you and hand it over to you. My skills combined with your personality = A Beautiful Room.

Another project I am working on is my kitchen redesign. Remember my stressing about changing my kitchen paint color here?

Well here is a peek of the new color:

We are so happy with the color! I do have to credit my husband who choose Chelsea Gray for the walls.

So excited! I will absolutely post photos after we are finished painting. Hurray! Do you like the new color better? It just looks fresher to me. Are you working on any interesting projects?

Quick Crown Molding Paint Question

crown3

I recently received a letter from a reader questioning if she should paint her crown molding the same color as the ceiling paint color, the trim color or the wall color to make the ceiling look taller and NOT look lower.

I did not have a picture of her room to base my advice on but gave her an answer that is the general rule for most circumstances:

A crown molding that is painted a different color than the walls may make the ceiling seem even lower because the highlighted molding draws the eyes to it. Also, if the molding is painted a different color than the walls, especially if the molding is painted the same as the ceiling color, it will make the ceiling look lower.

My advice to her was in this case, you might want to paint the crown molding and walls to match so the molding will be a continuation of the wall and the ceilings will not look shorter.

See how the room looks taller in the above photo with the crown molding painted the same color as the wall?

I hope this helps. I love crown molding and believe the extra detail in a room looks stunning!

Kitchen Decorating Idea

tray3

I have always thought that finding the right accessory for the kitchen island was challenging. Everything looks either too small or too large. I love fresh flowers, but that can get expensive. So I usually group a few items together to get the right proportion of accessories for the size of island.

The other day, just messing around, I thought about trying a tray to keep everything together. So I took my tray from the living room:

And changed out a couple items to look more kitchen-y:

Don’t you think it is a pretty good idea to use a tray for the island? I have seen a lot of kitchen photography over the years, and I have never noticed a tray being used. Easy to lift and move everything out of the way at once. And I think I will use the tray a lot more being in the kitchen to carry and hold stuff.

I really like this tray I had bought for the ottoman. I had looked a long time for one before I found one I really liked:

And since I already looked forever for this perfect tray, I am getting the same exact one because I like it so much! Target.

The size works well for my island and I like that the wood tray ties in with my cabinets.

Genius! haha Give it a try in your kitchen, I think you will really like the idea!

Have a great weekend everyone!
