house after5best

Don’t you just love it when you receive a happy email? This is the email I received yesterday that made my day (my week!):

I just wanted send you a quick note to let you know that I’ve really been enjoying your blogs and that you inspired me to do a quick little “color” project. My front door has been white for 10 years (I can’t believe it’s been that long) and I decided to paint it yellow! I wanted a natural shade so I used a yellow autumn leave from my yard to help choose a color. It’s Behr’s “Spiced Butternut”. Here are the before and after pictures:

Before:

And after:

house after5[1]

Stunning! What a transformation. The house was very pretty before but look at the after photo! I give her a lot of credit for taking a chance and painting the front door such a bold color. That takes courage!  And look at the end result of taking a chance:

A front door with personality! An ordinary home transformed to the prettiest home on the block! Fabulous!!

What do you think readers? Do you think her daringness paid off? Thank you so much for sharing Missy!

Color Inspiration: Navy Blue and Turquoise

I know, I know…. I have been crazy for navy lately! Such a classic, neutral color that plays so well with so many other colors:

I will be honest that when I first saw a picture of navy and turquoise together, I was not overly excited:

But then I looked a little more and found these oh-so-beautiful rooms:

Gray, turquoise and navy blue:

I realized why I do not like the navy and turquoise picture above I mentioned. I think the darker shades of turquoise with the navy work better rather than the lighter shades of turquoise:

I am not loving the light turquoise walls with the navy. I like the medium to darker shades of turquoise with the navy blue. What do you think?

I love this outfit with navy and turquoise!:

And we know Nature can not be wrong:

I do like the navy blue and turquoise together. I think it is not as striking as navy blue and the coral combination here, but still a color combination to consider!

Which color with navy blue do you love more, coral or turquoise?

Is Kelly Green Replacing Apple Green?

Last February, I wrote about using an apple green color to instantly update a room here:

Lately I have noticed kelly green showing up more and more. I have always thought that kelly green was such a strong and serious color, compared to the apple green color that is more youthful and fun.  I do not think I would use kelly green as a wall color because I would be afraid of it looking like a putting green! But after I saw a few beautiful photos of the color being used, I am really warming up to this shade of green for furnishings and accessories:

What I do love about kelly green,  is that like apple green, it works so well with whites, black, blues, browns and even coral colors.

What do you think of using kelly green? Would you try using it as a wall color?

Do you think kelly green is replacing the popular apple green color? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Just painting your front door can turn your so-so entrance into a stunning accent. A reader recently wrote and asked if I could list a few different color selections for a front door with the color name listed. She did not mention what type of home she has (brick, white, etc),  so I have listed a few of my favorites I have seen recently:

I have a mirror I painted the starry night blue. I love it. . This color does have a lot of purple undertones so just be aware of that if you decide to use it.

When researching for front door colors with the paint names listed, I came across a recent blog from Maria Killam that posted a few great paint colors:

Can you tell I love blue?  Which is your favorite? Just be sure to test your samples as if you were painting an inside room in your home!  Be sure the color works with your existing exterior colors and your hardscaping.  Look at the color in the harsh sunlight as well as at night to be sure you love before you paint!
