Sneak Peek At My New Condo

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

condo3

I thought I would share a little preview of the new condo we moved into last month. Things were a little crazy with the Holiday’s and moving, but I wanted to get started on the place so we can relax. You might remember what I looked like when we first moved in:

I  used most what I already owned such as this couch:

It really did not look good with the white walls, so I bought a TJ Maxx king-sized, micromink blanket to disguise it:

I did buy that fantastic mirror from Joss & Main and also the rug. Both incredible values for the total price of under $350.00.

I still have a few accessories I would like to get. Plus, my by-the-side-of-the-road chairs I found are being upholstered. I will post a few pictures when they are finished.

What do you think? It is now a room I walk into and smile.

Bedroom Redesign Inspired by Art

Isn’t this artwork beautiful? A perfect way to start a color scheme in a room. Here is the other piece of the set:

I am helping an online client with her bedroom and I thought these prints would be a gorgeous inspiration. We talked about paint colors also and since I have been obsessing over this bedroom photo:

I suggested she leave her white walls as is and just paint the ceiling in this Ben Moore Porcelain Glaze CSP-550:

That would look beautiful don’t you think? I recommended all white bedding with these blue shams and a duvet folded on the end of bed (in water):

And here is our design board:

Just lovely! What do you think of painting the ceiling of the bedroom instead of the walls in the blue?

My client does not mind that I share these pictures with you, but asked that I not give out all of our resources. Thanks for understanding!

New Office Space

I have been working with a client online who finally found a little room in her home that she can call her own:

source

The room is small and she asked for help finding pieces that she can use to design a beautiful office space.

source

Starting with the largest piece, the desk, I inquired if she would be using a large computer, but she only needs room for a laptop. The first item that popped in my head was the Durham Desk at Ballard Design:

The openness and clean lines make this desk a perfect choice for a small space. Here are two bookshelves also open and contemporary:

And what office does not need a great comfortable chair? This is a chair she recently purchased that will work great in the room:

I suggested a soft, light grayish blue color for the walls:

And here is the office design board she loved best that was in her budget:

She is going to keep her white sheers as window treatments in the room which will work well. She is so excited to get started!  Even if she can not afford everything right now, at least she now has a plan to begin. I have already ask her to please share photos when complete!

Have a great weekend my friends!

Ideas For That Wall Behind The Sofa

Tuesday, January 8th, 2013

source

Do you have trouble thinking of ideas on what to use in that large space behind and above the sofa?

source

That prime decorating space is usually between six to eight feet wide. That is a huge area and should be treated as a huge area when thinking of accessories that will work. It other words, think big!

One of the biggest mistakes I see is hanging something that’s too small and actually makes the wall look more awkward. Think gigantic!:

Look closely at the above photo. See how they used wallpaper and then put painted white molding around it? What a great idea! I might have to try that.

Another idea I love that is gaining popularity is the gallery wall:

source

Gallery walls are perfect for creating a focal point in any room and are a great way to incorporate creative ideas. My favorite thing about a gallery wall is that it can be interpreted in so many ways. To some, a gallery wall is a collage of various styles and sizes of frames. To others, a gallery wall is unified frames hung in a grid pattern:

I love the idea of a collage on the wall! Best is that there are no rules! You can mix and match frames and artwork, vintage posters and photos and mirrors in an uneven display and it looks brilliant:

Another creative way to fill in the space behind the sofa is with small ledges:

See how the grouping is together with the sofa? Be sure to include the sofa as part of your arrangement and build off of that:

Another great option is mirrors. By themselves or along with art:

source

I think they always look fabulous and will never go out of style.

One last idea that also looks great and is practical, is a console table behind the sofa:

As I wrote about here, console tables are such a perfect addition to many spaces and behind the sofa is one of the countless ways you can use this exceptional table:

source

Not only useful for holding your glass of wine, a table behind the sofa gives you a place to put a set of matching lamps, a pretty vase, a couple books and anything else you want. Another place to decorate and fill the wall at the same time:

I hope I have given you some ideas and inspiration that you can use in your home. Be creative and have fun. It will make you smile every time you see it! Any other suggestions to work with that big wall?
