A New Bedroom Update

I wanted to share an online bedroom project I recently finished that I think came out so pretty. My client Beth, had wanted to update her bedroom into a new, bright and fresh space.

She decided to use her existing bedroom furniture which is a darker stained wood. She had also recently painted the room with Ben Moore Palladian Blue HC-144:

I found this fabric for her because she wanted something a little more custom in the room without spending too much. This fabric will be made in window panels and a long boudoir pillow for the bed:

I suggested white bedding which she loved:

Weekend Resale Ready Home Staging

This past weekend I helped a new client, Eva, prepare her home to put onto the market for sale. She has a beautiful, sun-filled home that she just wanted me to ‘dress up pretty’ before it is officially listed on the market. Here is a picture of her kitchen before:

I had to work with this blue:

I found a great rug for only $14.99 at Home Goods:

Which I used to bring color in the room:

Eva also had a vibrant yellow bathroom:

That I calmed down a bit with a pretty shower curtain:

There was one bedroom upstairs that looked very old and dated. I had her paint the one room in the Ben Moore Palladian Blue color:

This color is so beautiful, it needs no other props in the room.

One area of the home I notice that is often overlooked is the closet:

Potential buyers do not want to see your old quilts, towels, mattress pads, etc. in the closet. Eva needed to keep just a few items in the closet. Instead of leaving the clothes all spread out:

I just brought all the pieces together and placed the best looking piece on the top:

The closet looks much neater now and shows how large it actually is.

I also laid a few bright Welcome mats at the home’s entrance which really brightened up the area (which of course I forgot to take pictures of). We spent under $100.00 for everything and I think it looks great.

It was left at the house stored away in a closet. I am so drawn to it. I don’t know if I love it or not!

How to Bring Your Basement to Life with Color

Selecting paint colors for the basement is a bit more difficult than the traditional upstairs rooms. Lighting is a big negative factor in the majority of basements (notice all of the ceiling lights in both the above and below pictures). Usually there are not many windows in a basement and this makes the space darker and hard to select colors that will not look ‘dirty’ or ‘dull’ or too dark on the walls.

I recently helped a client select colors online for her basement area which the family wanted for a space for the family to ‘hang out’ and watch TV, play video games and entertain. I noticed these beautiful four decoupages (one for each season) on the wall:

I wanted to bring out dresses in the pictures so the I suggested she try both Palladian Blue and Wythe Blue against the pictures to see which looked best. She fell in love with the Palladian Blue and here you can see why:

The artwork looks beautiful against the blue. This color also works well with the wood flooring and bookcase. She also had another large room downstairs that she wanted to choose colors for. Of course we had to be sure the color flow between the two rooms worked well.

I gave her a couple suggestions to try and she decided on Benjamin Moore’s Monroe Bisque. Look how beautiful the wall color came out:

Notice above that she painted the Palladian Blue behind the bookshelves to tie the two rooms together. (good readers live here!)

Planning My New Home Office

I am finally going to get started on my office project. I have been putting it off for months!

Sometimes these projects seem so overwhelming that it’s hard to even think about where to begin! I think that is a main reason why people (myself included!) put off starting them! Where do you first start?

I will tell you what has been holding me back from starting, I can not choose a paint color for myself! Like many of you, when it comes to selecting paint colors for myself I am just confused because there are too many colors to choose from!

So I decided to take a step back and approach it from another way. Before I choose a paint color, what do I actually need for an office? A room:

And I have a desk I want to use:

Ok, it needs to be painted but look at how great the size is! It can look like this:

I want bookcases built on both sides of the windows with a window seat in between:

I also want to add a lot of color with artwork, bulletin boards and storage:

I have a library card storage cube like the one below that I want to use in the room:

I also would love a great chair where I can read:

Going back to paint colors, I know that I want to use a soft blue that will soften the walls but will also work with the “bolder” colors I love. The pictures above of the soft blue-green painted rooms are my favorite. A few perfect blues that would fit this description are Palladian Blue HC-144 or maybe Wyeth Blue HC-143. Or how about the beautiful Glass Slipper 1632 blue? Another soft blue I have wanted to try is Constellation AF-540.

I am going to try two paint samples in the room. I really love the Constellation color and I also want to try Sheer Bliss CSP-545. It is a beautiful light blue with a little lavender in it. So pretty! I will let you know which color I choose after I test them at home.
