When we first moved into our NH home, I did not have the time or the money to design beautiful guest rooms like I wanted to right away. While saving up for my dream furniture, I used all of my furnishing from our previous NH condos.
Although it wasn’t quite the “dream room” that I envisioned, it still looked alright and had all of the necessary functions of a guest room (which was its purpose!).
And then one day, when I was shopping at Pier 1, I was talking to the salesgirl and she told me about this beautiful screen she had used as a headboard and she had just marked one down to half price because of a little hole. “Would I like to see it?” Bingo! Of course it was beautiful and at a great price. My plain guest room was going to be transformed!
It was just gorgeous! I had just purchased a new comforter on sale from Macy’s that I hoped would bring some color to the room. ( I checked at Macys.com to show you a picture but they are all out.) There was also a tall mirror in the room that I purchased at Bombay years ago which I still love, but I did not care for the finish now.
After complaining so much about it, I decided why not paint it? Yay! I love painting projects. I picked a dark blue color to coordinate with the comforter, kensington blue #840:
I had read somewhere about using wet newspaper to mask windows and mirrors instead of using tape. Forget about it!! It would not stick right as it dried, I had ink all over me, and paint went right through it. But it still did come out nice:
So I easily finished the room in a weekend. I still have some more things to do in the room but I like how it is coming out:
What do you think? Do you think it looks nicer? Next step is shopping for accessories, but that is my favorite part of the job!
