Big Girl’s Bedroom

I recently completed an online design plan for a mom who’s daughter will be celebrating her thirteenth birthday in June. Mom wants to surprise her with a new bedroom look while she is off visiting her Dad for the weekend. We started with the duvet cover she found at Pottery Barn:

Isn’t it so pretty? Mom contacted me because she wondered if she should paint the walls in a white or beige because there is so much color in the bedding:

Definitely not beige, because we are working with a white background in the duvet (clean vs. dirty). Plus, I think painting a white on the walls would make the bed stand out too much in the room. We want a wall color that will enhance the colors of the bedding:

There are a lot of colors to choose from in the duvet! But since the room is going to be for a young girl, here are a couple suggestions I thought of right away:

Ben Moore Faded Violet CSP-455:

Ben Moore Pinot Grigio Grape CSP-460:

Ben Moore Santa Clara 753:

Ben Moore In The Tropics CSP-640:

Ben Moore Spa Day CSP-635:

I always give suggestions of colors that might look close in color because the next step is important where the home owner has to pick up samples and see which shade is working best with the actual fabric. Mom did not want to even look at lime greens which would also work. So we narrowed it down to these few choices and now it is her turn to see which color works best. I also gave her a safe color:

Ben Moore Nimbus Gray 2131-50:

A beautiful color but remember this is a teen’s room! I think we need some personality on the walls!

I am excited to see which color she chooses. I would love to help pick out other accessories for the room (mirror, little chandelier, artwork). Hint, hint!!

Which color do you think will look great on the walls with her bedding? I know she will be happy with any of the choices!

Do you use the traditional red and green colors for your Christmas decorating? Do you ever consider trying a different non-traditional color palette for your home?

Some of my favorite colors I have seen are white, hot pink, silver, turquoise and lime. I think adding these colors keeps decorating fresh and fun, don’t you?

I think silver is the best color to accompany and complement the newer color palettes.

And have you heard about flocking your Christmas tree?

source

Christmas tree flocking is artificial snow that is applied to a Christmas tree. Both real and manufactured Christmas trees can be flocked and the flocking can look close to real snow in some cases. It has been around since the 1930’s.

I really love this look! You can now buy flocking kits at craft stores to make your own. I think I am going to check it out! You can have your tree flocked in any color (red, blue, pink, etc.) but I think the white is my favorite:

Do you like this tree flocking look? I think it is very pretty! Have any of these pictures inspired you to try different colors this year for your Christmas decorating? Have you started your Christmas decorating? smile….

Online Living Room Design Plan

Saturday, April 21st, 2012

Jonathan Adler

Recently an online client wrote and asked if I could help her with a design plan for her living room working with a color palette she fell in love with. She found this combination at designseeds.com :

Italian Colors

I also love these colors! So pretty. I found a couple pillows at crateandbarrel.com and here and there online that I sent her. I wanted to see which see loved best to get a better sense of her style:

And the winner for favorite pillow:

She had a white sofa (easy to work with!) and this is the design plan I presented her:

She was very happy with everything and is going to purchase the items over time.  I just wanted to share with you!

Selecting a Spa Color for Your Bath

House Beautiful.com

Lately I have been receiving a lot of color requests looking for help in finding that perfect bathroom color.

In the past few years, the bath was the room to experiment with darker colors:

But I have noticed a rising trend in the last year. More home owners are looking for that lighter, spa like feeling of serenity and tranquility.

Along with the rest of our home, we want that brighter, cleaner look for our bathroom also:

Below are a few beautiful blue/green Benjamin Moore colors I have recently suggested to create that spa style feeling:

Palladian Blue HC 144:

And here is a Benjamin Moore color suggestion from their website for a spa retreat:

Feather Gray 2127-60:

A bathroom painted with Benjamin Moore colors Feather Gray (2127-60) wall paint and highlighted by Wedding Veil (2125-70) to create a relaxed spa-like appearance.

These are just a few colors that will give your bathroom that spa like, serenity feeling.  And always be sure to test new color next to your existng countertop, cabinets and tile!

I believe the trend is going to be around for awhile! What do you think?
